I don’t like to be the “well actually” person, but the last decade of my career has been in SaaS startups.

None of these employers have had HR departments, because companies don’t legally have to hire an HR person until they reach a certain employee threshold. This is extremely normal in SaaS.

Sure, the first company I worked for was very toxic and desperately needed HR, but this does not hold for my second startup, nor my current place of business. Both are great places to work, who hire mature people who are able to openly discuss with one another and create a safe space to do so.
